Swimming in the Mediterranean at night

Walking southward in Haifa, I saw the Mediterranean sea die.

I saw it collapse and lose its vigor:

The surface became still and the breaths (the waves of the sea) disappeared.

When the sun went down, the skies and the sea were lit by a streak of blue light that infiltrated from heaven.

And even with the sun down, it was still hot and the air thick.

My skin touches the water and is revived

The cool water reminds me that it’s okay to-

look up and see the streak of light gone; the sea is dark and the skies too, and everything seems a continuation.

The cloud continue the sea, the sea continues my body, my body continues and contains myself.

I dip my head into the water and open my eyes to see the light.
